Accommodation would be at Hein’s Cottage, a delightful B&B in Alicedale. There is an excellent camp site there too for those who want to camp. You could drive up on Friday evening or early Saturday morning.
Cycling activities include a 60 km ride over the mountain to Riebeek East, along the R400 to Soutwaterpoort and back to Alicedale – in one or other direction. The route passes through Burchell’s game reserve twice. That could be on the Saturday.
Then here’s an idea for Sunday. Get dropped off at Ann’s Villa (Much history here) and ride over the Zuurberg Pass to the Zuurberg Inn for Sunday lunch before returning to Port Elizabeth.
This follows the old route into the interior taken by generations of hopefulls heading for the diamonds in Kimberly or the gold on the Witwarterstrand. Ann’s Villa was a staging post with a blacksmith’s forge for repairing wagons as well as having Boer war connections. There are also climbing and hiking options in the area.
